Went to the boot/shoe repair shop earlier today, as we were supposed to do for the longest time. Turns out my boots aren't repairable. Sigh.

I'll use that as an excuse to get myself new boots. And by "new boots", I mean "brand new milspec combat boots", to be clear. I will most likely buy some other shoes as well in the coming times, because my shoes situation isn't looking too good, but there are brand new milspec combat boots in my future. Massively overspecified and overdone boots, designed to walk what seems like a hundred miles a day without destroying your feet. Black. Creaky leather (might have to settle for the microfibers stuff, bleh). Hmm... Goodness!

sometimes I wonder....

if you had the change between bying boots that you can walk 100 miles / day confortably and boots that you can walk 10 miles / day comfortably.
Would you, walking about 3 miles a day tops, still go for the bulky ones?

just curious. You know what I think of you and clothing...

See, the trick is that boots that can walk 100 miles/day scale wonderfully well to walking 3 miles/day in amazing comfort. I walk about that amount with my current shoes, and I'm annoyed at every step, having had extremely good footwear in the last, um, 5-6 years.

And there's also my point of view, where it's not really how I look, but how I feel when wearing some particular clothing. If I look like an idiot, but I feel like the coolest guy on the planet, I'm all good with it (of course, that rarely happens, so it's works out okayish anyway).

And the lower cut combat boots, they're amazingly comfortable, have just enough weight to give me that really nice stomping feeling (but are light enough that I can sneak with them if I want to), have thick enough leather to protect my feet nicely, but thin enough to be very flexible, have this nice creaking leather sound (which I just love!) to them when I bend my ankle, and I just generally feel like I rule the world when walking around in them. They're a bit annoying to lace, but I find there's a good point in wearing something you went through some effort to wear, because you just like it "that much" (hence my common comment that "zippers are cheating"), and still, they're not too ridiculous (like your big tall black boots, which are awesome, but a big pain).

So they win major points for me, needless to say. :-)

Oh, and the combat ones are the practical, light ones. The heavy, bulky ones are parade boots, but I don't really like those ([livejournal.com profile] wlach and [livejournal.com profile] cloquewerk have boots like that). I've had more, um, normal low boots (just over the ankle), and they're about the same weight, but don't nearly leave me feeling as cool as I did with my combat boots.
