"Um, you look a little green."

Yesterday, woke up with my throat hurting some, a slight headache and light fever. Uh oh. Popped the good old Advil, things got better and headed out to the sugar shack. At some point, over there, the Advil gave up, and apparently, I really looked like shit, as everyone was commenting on my un-lively skin colors...

Went to the doctor today, looks like a tonsilitis. Wow, haven't had that since I was in first year of cégep! Got Tylenol and [livejournal.com profile] azrhey's Dulce de Leche, I'm doing all right now.

Now, back to bed for some more reading, possibly even napping!

Being sick = NOT an excuse to raid my ice cream!

See if I trust you EVER again ( with my ice-cream ).

Tonsilitis sounds like karma to me... but that's just me. What would I know. *laughs*

I hope it is not Mono. Remember for me :-)

Doctor didn't even mention mono. Should be in the clear! Not sure if I'll come to work tomorrow yet, I could probably haul my ass there and look sensible, but I'm not sure I'd be all that useful...

Stay at home if you're still sick! I succumb to diseases easily.

Did the doctor prescribe antibiotics? I think you should stay home and let your body heal itself quickly.

He took what I find to be a rather sensible approach. He did prescribe me antibiotics, but told me it was just in case. I was to wait 24 hours, using Tylenols to relieve the fever, and if I wasn't any better after that time, to start the antibiotics.

That said, I am feeling a good deal better, so I think I'll just stay home and take it easy, no antibiotics for me, let my immune system fight it out the old school way. :-)

If he is old-fashioned, why is he recommending anything to lower fever? Your body goes to a lot of effort to make a fever, which kills germs.

I will put up with a lot of pain when I am ill, because I haven't found any pain relievers that don't lower fever. I only take something if my fever gets to 40C (~104F) or if the pain and fever are keeping me from sleeping. I usually get over the flu, or whatever very quickly ;)

*growls* I usually don't GET the flu or whatever!

He's not old-fashioned, he's of the well-informed modern type. Thinking about resistant strains of bacterias and such. Was adamant that if I did start the antibiotics, that I'd go to the end of them, managed to shut him up only by telling him my ex is a microbiologist and that I knew all I needed to know about that stuff. :-)

By the way, I was using Advil, and he says that while Advil will lower fever a bit, it's not quite effective at that, it's mostly about relieving pain.

I'm told fever isn't so effective at killing bacterias. It will get rid of the small fry, but the real work is done by antibodies, and their production can actually be hampered by the fever. So I just take the Tylenol and stay in bed all day.

Either way, I usually don't GET sick. I didn't miss it, really. *growls again*

I may try ibuprofen next time I get sick (if I remember, I don't get sick often). Only problem, with me, the stuff works well for pain, sometimes. Then I can't take it for several months if I hope to have it work.

I am!

I was a little disappointed in the performance of my immune system (today, I took my first sick day in 7 years!) recently, as I got mild sicknesses a number of times since last june, but the fact that I'm getting better by myself, with no antibiotics, returns a bit of my faith in my immune system. :-)
