Sometimes, some thought comes to me, and I don't know why. Today, I reflected on how I once listened to absurdly cheesy music. I'll go and confess my sins right here, so I can get this off my chess (that's what a diary is for, ain't it?).

I listened to Glenn Miller and the Beachboys in high school. Yes. Me, mister weird german techno and avant-garde music. Laugh it out of your system, please do. Thank you.

Then, I got slightly better in cégep, but not too much. I listened to Rush, Genesis (the progrock era, from the days of Peter Gabriel and Steve Hackett), Pink Floyd and Emerson Lake & Palmer. Some of it is slightly justifiable (okay, so Geddy Lee has the most annoying voice ever, but go listen to "La Villa Strangiato"), but ultimately, they left me with a bad taste in my mouth. Come on, ELP made that "I Believe in Father Christmas" song and the whole damn "Love Beach" album, how can you possibly forgive them?

Maybe I'm too much of an elitist, snob or something. I find myself listening to some stuff in my current music collection, and feeling somewhat ashamed at how cheesy it is (some Rammstein, for example, leaves me rather unimpressed these days, but I still remember liking them!). At least, it's not as bad as some other metal I've heard, like Rhapsody, which seems to have the most astoundingly silly lyrics as some kind of excuse for laying down some good solid metal music.

I have some good memories, though. I don't remember quite how that worked, but I had this desk lamp that had a spring-loaded arm, and I used to jam to Glenn Miller (yeah, how the fuck did that work???) on the springs, varying the tension and the speed at which I scraped them to make all sorts of sounds. I found myself smiling a lot when I saw Andrew Chudy do the same thing at the Einstürzende Neubauten show I went to, except on bigger springs, and amplified. Hehe! :-)

Now, off to bed early, which in my language means "before 4am". Mucho work still to do tomorrow, and other things. Important things.
