Those new earphones I have, they're pretty odd. They go in the ear canal, you see? In exchange from effectively being ear plugs and sealing me off from environmental sounds better, I can listen to music to a lower level and make it out much better, rather than suffer from "iPod syndrome" (where you crank up the volume to cover the environmental noise up to insane levels).
But it's like I'm walking around with my fingers in my ears.
On top of the obvious issue of being rather oblivious to people trying to talk to me (that's the slight increase in appearing insane), I also can't hear the sound of my own voice normally. Sometimes, even when I'm on the metro, I'll sing along, at a rather quiet level, but possibly still audible. Yes, I'm one of those crazy guys on the metro. But now, my voice sounds all weird to myself, so I've apparently mostly dropped the habit.
So I might appear more like one of these non-insane people on the metro, now.
But you know better, don't you?
