Why do I do it?

After finally putting out that release candidate I was working on, a bit after midnight. I went for dinner with apenwarr to Dunn's, where we talked about all sorts of interesting things.

He complimented me on the good work I've been putting on this release, which was very nice, and followed it up with a question. He mostly had me figured out, regarding what motivates me to do good work, but couldn't figure out why I was working so hard on this. He understood that I probably was one to want to do a good job (which is true), but didn't get why I tried to get the job in the first place, when I usually sound like I wouldn't like doing it. I'm doing it in memory of denizsarikaya. I want to do this in a way that would have made her proud. He said that he found this very noble, which coming from him is a very flattering compliment.

I might not always succeed, but I try. I think I'm doing all right.
