Did you know that, for the price of a pint of Guinness in Montréal, you can buy a whole freakin' five litres of fine Cabernet-Sauvignon here?

Now, is that a good or a bad thing? I'll leave that as an exercise to the reader.

[livejournal.com profile] nemesis2207 is actually on her way to my place, she lives in France as well. She says French wine is cheap, but so terrible she goes to Germany to buy hers :)

Well, there's definitely a spectrum, but I wouldn't write French wine right off. The beer, though, is another story, and I'd get German stuff if possible as well. The few decent French beers definitely have Belgian or German in them...

Besançon, that's not too far from where I was last weekend, actually!

And that icon, by the way, is hawt. You've had it for a little while, but I haven't been commenting under the influence for the last little while, so there. :-P

I always wondered how Europeans, especially the French, can consume so much wine when it's so expensive. There's the answer; it's not for them!

How much is a pint of Guinness in Montreal? lol

Wow... That must be at the bar, Im guessing. For a little more than that you can get 4 pints at the SAQ.

Interesting though. France is in my top 3 of places I want to go in the next 5 years...

Yes, of course, at a pub.

And, uh, I might have forgotten exchange rate, in my drunken happiness. Still, it'd be something like the price of a single bottle for a five litres container...

You're shitting me. Here in England it's almost never more than $4. No wonder everyone drinks Molson over there...

(I'm not a complete random, btw, I'm an old buddy of [livejournal.com profile] v0idnull's.)

Yeah, it's pretty expensive, anywhere outside of Ireland and the UK... Here in Toulouse, two pints of Guinness will run me almost 12 euros!

Thanks for the heads-up, I often wonder where the people leaving comments come from.

No worries, when you're as bored as I am in my mother's house on a Saturday night, reading friends' friendslists becomes more fun than what I'm supposed to be doing!

How are you finding Europe? :-)

The booze is good and cheap, but I miss a bunch of stuff horribly, right now...

That's the thing, it's the import/export that's so bloody expensive! Also, the euro exchange rate is insane, these days (CDN$1.53 for an euro!)...

bah, that's not that bad, we paid 1.67$ 2 summers ago which is why we avoided London (the pound was 2.60$)

*sigh* i guess i'll just have to try and be wooed by the current "buy Quebec cheeses" campain (http://www.fromagesdici.ca/fr/default.asp)

Whew, that bad? It was more in the CDN$1.40 when I arrived...

Meanwhile, I'm missing poutine. :-P

It's the hangover I woke up with that I don't find so fine.

Many things about the French can be explained by the fact that wine is cheaper than water (at least in restaurants).

Hmm, that's true! I'll have a comparative report about the Catalans, in a few days, as well...
