Today, we received the delivery of our couch at home, and it's got a secret trapdoor, pretty cool!

Also, I saw a QString used as a boolean. I must admit it had me pretty damned confused for a while.

Which, of course, reminds me: [livejournal.com profile] musicdieu (or anyone else with some clue), what's some decent vodka to have at home? I'm looking at both one for the occasional straight drinking, and some for mixing. I've seen some Żubrówka for the former, and there's a few options for the latter, but I've only heard of Wyborowa (or I might just sin and mix Żubrówka?).

Oh where to start. Zubrowka is definitely awesome. Grey Goose is good but maybe it's a little too stereotypical especially since you're in France? I have some Ketel One in my office now, but I'd much rather have some Belvedere. I remember they served Finlandia on Czech Airlines which got me really hammered on my flight back. I tried Medoyeff, made in Oregon, the other day and liked it.

Zubrowka is tasty with apple juice.

I was also told before by [livejournal.com profile] musicdieu that Grey Goose was one of the best non-flavoured vodka, and he found it pretty ironic that it was French rather than Polish or Russian, but I'm finding it even more ironic that can't seem to find it around here?!? If I skip the Smirnoff and the other low-end crap at the supermarket, they have Wyborowa, Eristoff and Vikorof, of which I know only the first one. Finlandia is decent? I think I've seen some at another supermarket, I'll keep an eye out.

They also have Żubrówka, which I will be getting, but I'd feel a bit weird mixing myself a Screwdriver with that. :-)

Similar to when the Irish girl from HR and I were explaining how true Black Velvets were made (half a pint of Guinness floating on half a pint of Champagne) to the people at work, and they almost took out the pitchforks and torches.

Well, I guess you'll have to try the ones we haven't heard of and report back!

I agree with everything in this paragraph save for Medoyeff which I don't know about.

- Żubrówka is absolutely wonderful.
- Belvedere/Chopin (these seem like different companies, but maybe the vodka is cross-licensed or something since it pretty much tastes identical) is excellent clear vodka.
- Grey Goose is a notch better than those.
- Finlandia is fantastic for the half-of-what-you-pay-for Grey Goose cost.

If you want to try 'authentic Russian' stuff, you can try for Stolichnaya, though I'm not a fan myself. Moskovskaya is reputed by some to be alright as well, though again, I'm not a fan.

One of my new personal favourites recently is "Kiermusianka," my stepdad got me a bottle in Poland and it is FANTABULOUS. It's another naturally flavoured vodka, and it's very difficult to describe the flavour with anything other than 'good.' The vodka has a crisp taste, stings like a motherfucker, and leaves you feeling very warm, mellow, and fuzzy afterwards. I strongly recommend it, but judging by the fact that almost everything I've seen regarding this vodka is in Polish, I don't think it's available on export markets. I haven't found any at the LCBO, at least.

Oh, and I don't like Wyborowa at all. It tastes like what I imagine prison vodka tastes like if they manage to get hold of any potatoes.

It's kind of funny, someone had told me it was good, I got a bottle, but I ended up giving it away to someone, after serving a tour of duty as my "emergency vodka" in my drawer at the office (without ever being opened). I just used it to make threats. ;-)

It was also the only other name I recognized in the clear vodkas, other Smirnoff. *shudder*

By "fantastic for the half-of-what-you-pay-for Grey Goose cost", do you mean that it's fantastic even compared to Grey Goose, price notwithstanding, and that it's cheaper to boot, or just that it's a really good price/quality ratio, and that Grey Goose is better?

Finlandia having words such as "fantastic" and "cheaper" going with it, coupled with the puzzling unavailability of Grey Goose, I might just pick some up. Didn't see it at the local booze providers, but I think I've seen some around...

I tried Stolichnaya and Moskovskaya, but I can't say I'm too fond of those. I guess it's a matter of taste...

What happens to my eternal soul if I make Screwdrivers with Żubrówka?

Thanks for the info!
