A little bit of stress, but I'll survive
Jun. 30th, 2006 09:44 pmYeah, watching a ridiculously rough Portugal vs Netherland football match with the lady
azrhey Sunday evening isn't the most relaxing thing ever... ;-)
We visited an apartment, and it seems like it might be a better choice than the one from the agency. It's a bit more expensive per month (20 euros more or so), but it's got shelves in the kitchen (the other one was bare, we'd have to buy some Ikea-type shelves ourselve), as well as a built-in stove, oven and dishwasher (woohoo!). Those things, on top of not having to pay the agency fee! It's a bit further away from work, but there's a train station that goes there nearby, with a bus that goes there, and it's also closer to downtown and all the cool things. There's a 24/7 convenience store at the corner, which around here just totally boggles my mind!
Monday, dropped the bike at the shop to get the wobbling wheel fixed. Back to being a pedestrian for me. Like I think I've said earlier, I've been volunteered for doing QA/testing work, and I'm hating it pretty bad. Annoyed.
Tuesday, there was frozen things falling from the sky. And down here, on the ground, we're sweating and getting pummelled. Our studio is in an attic, with windows on the roof, it's pretty noisy in here. There was the France vs Spain match of the World Cup, it was pretty funny, we could hear the neighbourhood yell when there was a goal or a bad play. I tried to hack on Quadra a little bit, but the Internet keeps dropping dead. Grr...
Wednesday, I talked to the agency, and was reminded that we left them some cheque for an ungodly amount, and that they're going to cash it if we drop out of the apartment we were getting involved into. I was pretty damned angry. Yelling at people on the phone has always been one of
azrhey's competencies, so she's taking care of some of that, which relieves me a good bit. Also, talking with one of my more senior co-workers, he says that he wouldn't be impressed if I was stuck in QA/testing, so that relieved me a bit more. Just have to hang in there until the release, and then back to something less annoying.
Thursday was one of those days that wouldn't end, at work. We went to yell at the agency, but they were closing just as we arrived. We then went to see the person who's going to rent us the apartment, to see what we'll need in the manner of paperwork. It's going well, but we didn't sign anything, which makes my Québecois predisposition twitch a bit (here, signing the lease and giving the keys go together, but nothing stops her from telling us the day before we're supposed to sign (which is right when we'll be moving in) that she'll be giving the place to her cousin instead or something). I'll survive.
Today, we started the day by going to the agency and finally doing the yelling (well, to be accurate,
azrhey did the yelling while I sat there, totally uncomfortable). Thankfully, it worked, and we left with our cheque, which we're going to burn or something... At work, things started rather blah, then I took a bit of a rebellious approach to my testing, doing some scripting to make things easier (I was told to just brute force through the tests, but I couldn't resist, after setting up things so many times exactly the same way). I then had what seems like a great idea, of using Make to control my scripted testing. Hmm, my previous ideas about testing (at NITI) involved Make too, but in a different way, seems like I've got a thing for Make!
Upon arriving home,
azrhey thought I was annoyed enough in the morning that maybe I ought to have a little something nice, so she bought some Carte d'Or chocolat noir to cheer me up. Excellent!
