Photos! Biking! (Lack of) renting!

I managed to finish posting the photos I wanted to post yesterday, later. You can see the power of Chris and
pdage at work. I poked my head out of one of the Velux and saw this. And here is the chocolate crisp that comforted me last monday.
I went and bought the Giant FCR 2. It's a sweet, sweet ride, for quite a decent price, quite light (less than 22 pounds! my previous bike was around 28 pounds) and responsive. It's a bit sensitive to gust of wind, but that's not surprising, being so light and nervous. I have to be more careful, these are road tires now, they aren't the tough as nails Fat Boys I used to have! The brakes seem a bit lightweight (although I love the Avid brake levers!), but maybe they just need to be broken-in (I also had large mountain-bike-grade brakes before, these are "just" road bike brakes). The road bike brakes and tires are so nice to take off the front wheel easily, though, just the small lever and the quick-release, done! The best thing is the gearing, which I found to be so nice and wide, I'm amazed. Welcome to the world of 8 speeds! The middle chain-ring is about as big as the biggest one on my old bike, so it seems like I never run out of gears to shift up, and with the 8 speeds in the back, you don't need to mess with the chain-rings too much anyway, and again, I had to look at my gears, thinking I was in the last one, but actually having two more! Sure thing, I'll certainly be able to go fast with this thing!
I even managed to find just enough space at the bottom of the stairs of death, in a tiny nook. It seems to have been designed to fit there!
Finally got my hand on the password for the wireless access point here, making it much handier to use the Internet.
I'm a bit anxious about getting an apartment at the moment. The real estate agent is trying to contact the tenant to arrange for a visit, without much success...

Date: 2006-06-16 04:04 am (UTC)If you keep your tires up at ridiculous pressures, you shouldn't have too many problems with them. I never got pinch flats on my aforementioned CCM even going over curbs and such, mostly due to luck I suppose, but also the high pressures.
