I've heard the following, once upon a time: "Always code as if the guy who ends up maintaining your code will be a violent psychopath who knows where you live."

What happens if I am the violent psychopath? I know where I live. Am I supposed to kill myself tonight?

If you have found code that warrants it, yes.

The suggested algorithm: Sneak into your victim's house at random intervals. If you find them already asleep in bed, kill them.

You don't have to kill yourself, but at the very least you have to make a suit out of your own skin.

I'm sure you can get an algorithm better than O(L), where L is the expected time to death of natural causes of the victim.
