That last weekend, I said, right?
Feb. 28th, 2006 04:39 amSo, this great weekend? Ah, yes!
Timed and checked the distance on the way there. 5 hours and 22 minutes, including a 23 minutes stop for food (at the Arby's in Kingston, of course!). This makes for an average of 120 kph, or 129 kph, for just the driving part. Doesn't sound so evil, but it includes the slow parts in Montreal and Waterloo proper, so my average on the 401 looked more like 140 kph! Yowser! Peaked at 180 kph three or four times, and oddly enough, most of the way to Kingston, I had someone following me, no matter what (including a number of those peaks!). This is a ridiculously nice car to drive, and I can't say I won't miss that when living in Europe (at least, rental cars won't have ridiculous automatic transmissions).
Arrived at around 11:30pm, straight at
ayria's place, and stayed there until 2am or so, being shiny as hell. Chatted a bit with my host, Mr Langmaid, before hitting the sack. He was a wonderful, if only slightly invisible host (as he was completing a contractual obligation during the weekend, due for the Monday!), providing all the facilities and unrestricted access. Quite handy, thanks again!
On the Saturday, picked up
musicdieu,
ayria and
thatsthetruthki to head over to
morethanreal for some tasty pancakes and tea.
sfllaw contacted us there, and we then headed over to
ayria's place for meeting with him, as well as
holdenk and
math_foo for some Chez Geek. Stylish, as was mentioned.
We then all raided Ellison's Bistro in
sfllaw's van for some tasty dinner. Back to
ayria's place (with a stop at the LCBO for supplies!) for drinking, silliness and some photo slideshow. More shininess followed.
The Sunday, I pretty much already summed up, but there was a few more things. There was a stop by
musicdieu's place after leaving
ayria's, to try to fix up my dead music player (seemed to have worked, but this morning, trying to put some more music on it killed it again, gah!).
Some people, who obviously didn't see me today until later in the day, seemed to be under the impression that my parting time had been much worse than it had been in reality. Reading back the entry, I can understand that, but I think the following little story should dispel that myth. :-)
Quite ironically, since I was driving much less aggressively than when I arrived, I got pulled over on my way home, somewhere between Toronto and Kingston. 138 kph, I'm told. "Oh my" is my response to the officer (I wasn't surprised by the number when she told me, but when I saw her car, I glanced down, wondering how fast I was going, and had been a bit surprised). Asks me a few questions, and I answer. Now you have to picture this, this guy gets pulled over, but he's all cheerful and smiling. She must have thought I was pretty weird! The cherry on the sundae was her last question, which was whether I was in trouble with the police. I paused to consider her question, then bursted out laughing and told her that "no, not with police, at least"! I must have seemed quite charming, as she let me go with a reduced speed on the ticket. :-)
See, my weekend was going so well, even getting pulled over had to be all right, and almost fun, even!

Date: 2006-03-01 04:56 pm (UTC)I didn't get handed a ticket, I got handed a summons. Had to go to court (in some small town in the middle of nowhere) a few months later. I somehow managed to plea-bargain the speed down, with a corresponding fine decrease. (It was like $450 down to $300, still a crazy amount.)
