I wasn't paying attention when I was in Denmark last October. But, my sister told me this story from ~1970: She and my dad were travelling to Denmark via Germany. They caught a train in Germany and had to spend several hours at the train station. My sister was trying to read the signs. She found a vending machine that said "gummi" (sp?). She asked my father if it was chewing gum (Danish for chewing gum is tygge gummi). He blushed and had to explain that it was selling condoms.
Mostly on the walls outside in the streets, stations, shops... I have read at some point that it is easier to just install a vending machine outside a newspaperstand than having the condoms being sold by the guy behind the counter.
