I got myself boots again today. And the world is a better place. :-)

They're not new, as I had hoped, though, as it would seem military spec combat boots are rather hard to come by new (parade boots are easier to find it seems, but I prefer combat). But they are just about new, so that will do just fine. Put on some black polish on them, and they look smashing!

I'll go off and try them out better now...

I'm about due for a new pair as well. Any recommendations?

The only thing I have to recommend is to be sure you get the real thing, as in something the military would buy, ie "milspec". The military are stupidly anal retentive about quality control, so while it's not cheap (huzzah for our taxes!), it's good stuff.

Parade boots were real easy to get, used as well as new, but combat boots (my personal preference), I could only find "barely used". Parade boots might look better, but it's the combat boots that were designed for people to walk dozens of miles a day in!

Here you go!

Here you go, standard issue military combat boots, size 9½:

And while I'm not a huge boot or leather worshipper or anything, there's a few pieces of good leather that when I see them, I go "oh yeah!". Combat boots are one of them.

I don't much care for the parade boots. Slip & slide all over the place.
I wish I still knew people in the military, then I might be able to get new combats. What store did you get yours?

I got it at a surplus on St-Laurent. There are two stores there, one south of Maisonneuve and the other just south of Ontario, both on the east side of the street.

Parade boots

I can't seem to find parade boots anywhere! Are you thinking of the boots that are high gloss or patent leather shiny? If so, where do you find them? Thanks for your help. Williamcabot@msn.com

I mean like those (although they are indeed often mis-identified as combat boots, at least in Canada).

Around Montreal and Toronto, any army surplus stores will have used ones, and possibly new ones. There are stores that sell similar styles of boots that might actually be more modern and wearable, but I'm not too aware of them...
