Went to Old Dublin tonight, had a lot of fun with [livejournal.com profile] azrhey (and J!), [livejournal.com profile] blacksquiggles, [livejournal.com profile] miseri, [livejournal.com profile] swestrup and [livejournal.com profile] taxlady. Came out of that with all the body parts I had on the way in, which is pretty good, in my book.

After that, I felt like walking around and taking photos, so I headed toward my place, remembering that [livejournal.com profile] emjayne mentioned being at Grumpy's with some other people, thought I'd stop there on the way. Ended up staying until 2am, practicing my rusty-but-once-good candid photography skills (timing is everything!) with a bunch of willing subjects. Taking good photos of people while they're talking is all about timing, and I found myself annoyed at the shutter lag on my 20D (which is actually excellent, but it's still there!). Canon needs to make a rangefinder with their 20D innards, obviously. :-)

Now, time to hit the bed.

Notably missing from the photos is [livejournal.com profile] don_teo, and two others who were also there later on.

Hells YEAH 1600! :)

It was wonderful to have you join the ever-evolving Grumpy's circle. Any group that can leapfrog from LARPing (in an elevator in San Jose) to severe geektalk to fish breeding (& German and Thai colleaugues' badly translated emails on the subject) to photography to the 14 day Starbucks construction plan is all right in my books.

Why is it always when I leave the country that you all have fun ?

Trust me that's completly unecessary :) I managed to shoot half of my club stuff in iso 800 with my crummy 25-135mm f3.5-5.6, so you know what minimum F I'd be using. Besides, big apertures are sometimes too risky.

28-135 is IS no ? You gain 2 to 4 stops easily.

50mm f1.4 is cheaper :-)

Because you have no luck?

Just a guess.

I try to make it to Grumpy's every Tuesday night around 10 for some conversation and relaxation. It's grown into a mini-LJ meet-up, with anywhere from 5-25 people showing up, though it averages to around 10.

It'd be wonderful to meet you. Now that the weather's warmed up, there are few things more pleasant than spending a few hours sitting on a terrace, sipping a drink and chatting with new, interesting, and intelligent people.

Because of the reduced DOF? That's true, although having a big aperture makes for better focusing performance in the dark, which is quite annoying when it lets you down. :-)

True, although I never remember the custom function to disable the flash. Well, yay for the 20D, I can just look through the menu. :-)
