So, I hear it's snowing back in Montréal?

This week, there were people going to the beach in France, both along the Atlantic and the Mediterranean. The latter is especially nice at this time, I'm told, as it's warmed up all summer, and now the air is in the low 20's, the difference isn't as harsh.

Yeah... So... Snowing, eh?

Seems like [livejournal.com profile] dcoombs got himself a Macbook. He's "amazingly refreshed" at finally having working power management, after suffering through years and years of crap. I remember the first little while with my Powerbook, where I'd pray a bit every time I'd close the lid, only to eventually be enlightened: it won't crash on me a few times a day! The uptime on my Powerbook is basically "how long since the last kernel upgrade", like it bloody should be.

[livejournal.com profile] dcoombs: Try minimizing a window while holding down the Shift key. Hehehe! Candy!

Tim Bray went through a while of using Ubuntu on an AMD64, before eventually going back to the Mac. The anti-aliased fonts in Aquamacs are very easy on the eye, and considering how much I stare at text in that program, it's quite a factor. Staring at numbers in "top", despite complaints that some Mac OS X stuff is bloated, GNOME is just a horrible pig by comparison. But like him, I can see the endgame coming. On my Ubuntu box at work, I have to say that Synaptic is quite nice, despite a few dubious corners (which I think [livejournal.com profile] sfllaw told me they might have been fixed in Edgy, since I'm still using Dapper). In the mean time, I'll be using Mac OS X on my desktop, I think, because I'm one selfish bastard, as it is well-known.
