I just finished watching the Grundstück DVD. :-)
Approximately 3.2 seconds after starting it, the girl next door started banging on the wall pretty solidly, but, ahem, she was quite right in doing so, as I had left the volume at the usual level for a daytime listen, they started up with some rather forceful banging, and it was just past midnight. Oops! I found myself wishing I could have hooked up headphones to my television, but alas, I can't. So it was some sitting at the end of the bed with the volume low enough.
It was quite interesting, but just odd and unpolished enough that it probably won't convert anyone. But then, lack of polish is rather appropriate for this band. The main part was a super-extended version of Grundstück, which was originally on Perpetuum Mobile and so happened to be one of my favourite track.
I saw and heard the turbine, which had a surprisingly delicate sound, particularly with the brush-sticks. A tire, apparently coupled with a coil spring, provided some interesting percussions. And they "electrified" the parts of the structure of the Palast der Republik itself for the opening part of the Grundstück song. Unfortunately, it was very subtle and couldn't make out many of the sounds at the low volume I had the television set to (in case there was big sudden noises, which there were!).
The album itself is playing right now, and while it has some more animated pieces, it is overall rather ambient, with a choir vocalizing and some very, very slow torturing of some metallic things...
