I'm a bit disappointed at work, of the direction our product is taking. It seems like some people have a fetish for complexity, and, well, I have a fetish for simplicity. My ability to design nifty elegant systems is almost directly linked to my inability to comprehend inelegant systems that have too many exceptions and special behaviours for me to all keep in my head at once.

Also, speaking of work, I'm not too impressed by last minute requests made to [livejournal.com profile] denizsarikaya. 15 hour days are not to be expected of people, that's just insane. For her, it's like that all the time. Oh, sorry, only 12 hours, most of the time. And she almost never comes on weekends anymore. Yeah, that's totally sane.

I managed to get some positive stuff done today, despite my disappointments, such as fixing some bugs in XPLC, my own pet project. It really is a beacon of hope and sanity in my software development universe, these days.

I'm having this delusional hope for this term not to suck as badly as the previous one. I spent most of last term doing random bug fixing, and I'm really not good at that. But I think this term, I might get to work on stuff I'm good at and love doing.

I watched the first episode of the new season of Alias. I'm not impressed at all, but I think I've become uninterested by television nowadays. I'd much rather hang out with people and chat. Geeking out together over the content of one's Palm. Talking about our formative years over a few pints of the black stuff. You know, hanging out with cool people?

I fiddled a bit with my remote control setup, so I didn't have to swap speaker cables in the back of my computer when I wanted to switch between the study and other room. It's all at my fingertips now!

I'm finding out that Front 242's "Up Evil" album seems to be a reasonable substitute for coffee, if I'm not too far gone. Contrast with Skinny Puppy's Remission, which is just not morning music at all. I wonder how that works inside my head, really? Why is one acceptable morning music, and the other isn't?

I'm also quite amused at finding out that I was thinking I got up at 1:30pm or so, when in fact I had missed the first "1": I got up around 11:30am! That's good stuff, as I was being disappointed with myself recently for skipping out so badly on my "up by noon" rule...
