Since I got my speakers in the kitchen, some evil plans have been brewing in my sick little head...

Does anyone knows of an RF (radio frequency) remote control that could be hooked up to my computer? It would need about 10 meters of range around the receiver. It wouldn't need to be super-fancy, but I just have this dream of being in my bed and being able to control the volume or pause the music.

For the moment, my situation is rather low-fidelity, with a pair of 50$CDN speakers hooked up to an extension cord, but I have some plans of getting a decent sound system, hook it up to my computer and try to figure out a neat way of integrating the lot together as nicely as possible. Combined with some plans of re-ripping my CD collection with an even better Ogg Vorbis and at a higher quality setting, it should be pretty damn awesome.

So if I can find a really cool remote control that would work around the house, that would just totally rock.

in case you didn't know and for future reference, I am tone deaf.

So if one day I say " I don't particularly care for music" don't rip me a new one. I can barely hear the difference between a do and a fa . On certain instruments I can't even make the difference between with a do and a sol.

ie: my ex was a bassist and we tested it, I could SEE he was pinching different cords but i was hearin the same sound.

anyhow, can't help with your speaker problem but figured i'd share information before i say something and you look at me like i just grew a third eye.

While I can conceive of such condition, I find it very sad, much like I am sad for people who are allergic to cats. Music and cats brings much joy to my life. I'm sure you have your own things, but these are some of mine.

I'll be figuring out the speaker situation by myself, I got a good grip on that, my biggest question is about the radio (non infrared, has to work through walls and stuff) remote control. That would be way cool!

ATI has the Remote Wonder which is a USB RF remote control. I think it comes with some of their graphics cards, but I'm pretty sure you can also buy it standalone.

Cool, that looks like just the thing I was looking for. Microbytes seems to have it in separate packaging, I'll go and grab one today. A review claims 20 feet range, which should be enough to reach my bed if I setup the receiver in the right spot. :-)
