Hacked a bunch on Quadra this weekend, doing an SDL port, to bring it into the 21st century (although SDL itself is kind of old school in some ways, I'll probably discuss that on my other journal).

Also had a dose of World Cup on Saturday, where the lady [livejournal.com profile] azrhey and I watched the Portugal vs England game at home (a decent game, if not too impressive, but that Portuguese goalkeeper really did magic at the end!). Football really isn't good for [livejournal.com profile] azrhey's heart! We then headed over downtown to check out the Brasil vs France festivities and celebrations. I even took photos!

Ahh, [livejournal.com profile] jwz is so funny sometimes (or at least, he's quite quotable!)... From a music show review post: "This show made me feel very old, very male, and very tall. The audience was a sea of pyramid belts and plumber-crack on 18-year-old lesbians." "I remember enjoying these guys at the time, but now I can't remember a single thing about them. This is, sadly, often the case with modern punk bands."

The Portuguese lost to the French, on a stupid mistake on the part of a Portuguese player who committed a fault in that box near the French goalie, which granted them a penalty (which Zidane did well, though). Otherwise, I think this would have gone on for another good while and might have been decided with a penalty shoot-out, just like the match with England, and there, I don't know what would have happened, could have gone either way. Still, good work from the Portuguese team for getting that far. Let's see what the France vs Italy will be like, now...

The work week went quickly enough. It's better since I've finished the QA/testing, but I'm facing a few bits of silliness still. My "faith" is low, so in a way, so I'm just doing my job. I'm doing all right, but I'd like to have the passion for my work that really brings the best of myself. I hack a bit on Quadra, where I can do some fun refactoring. It's been what, 5-6 years? Amazing how much I've learned since then...

Friday evening, the lady [livejournal.com profile] azrhey took me out for a birthday dinner at Chez Carmen, "le restaurant des Abbatoirs". Excellent food was had, where they didn't even bother ask me how they should cook my beef: they just do it correctly. Followed by lovely chocolate mousse, yay! We walked around a bit in the St-Cyprien neighbourhood, then toward the Fer à Cheval through the Prairie des Filtres, which is a nice park along the Garonne.

Today, we went down to a shopping mall in Portet-sur-Garonne where we could find the largest Carrefour of Europe (Carrefour and Auchan are kind of like Wal-Mart, but even more complete, with proper groceries and all). It was indeed freakin' huge. We stopped by our future apartment to pick up the keys, not to go live there, but rather so we can have our things delivered this Tuesday.

At that point, I found out that the beer called "Pêcheur" actually stands for "pêche" (peach, which I find the taste rather foul), despite the little fisherman featured on the logo. No, this doesn't make sense. Welcome to France. ;-)

We then went on to another shopping mall, over in Balma, at the end of the metro line (way more useful, Portet-sur-Garonne is a pain in the butt to get to). I found out that the Toulouse metro has aerial parts, which is rather surprising when you don't expect it.

Over there, at the kind of non-food court they had, I discovered that here, iced tea is called "hiss tee" rather than the whimsically logical (and actual French) "thé glacé", and that, by default, iced tea is peach flavoured, for some odd reason. Again, I like iced tea, but despise peach. It would seems that peaches are very readily available in Europe, so a lot of things are flavoured with them.

We made a halt in our return trip at the Place Esquirol, downtown, for a half of cold beer and some observation and discussion with [livejournal.com profile] azrhey of French womans boobs (or lack thereof), as well as the manliness of European men.

Now watching the "little final" between Portugal and Germany, feeling rather lazy. That German goalie is scary.

Might get posted a bit late, as we don't have Internet since yesterday evening... Oh well.
