Good Night, and Good Luck.
Mar. 2nd, 2006 05:15 pmWent to see Good Night, and Good Luck with
red_star_stone yesterday. Was a good movie, with a solid cast and equally solid. David Strathairn was hard core! The photography was excellent all around, with tight framing, excellent lighting, good use of changes in focus and depth of field, as well as a very good choice of film. It was shot on black and white film, but not a modern, sharp film like was used in Schindler's List, and not overdone, super-grainy film either, just a good, high silver content black and white film, with an apparently endless density range to show for it, very cool stuff.
There were a few weaknesses, of course. Some characters were rather ambiguous (maybe an advantage, not making them too campy either could have been difficult?), I didn't really get the arc with the Wershba couple, and the end was a bit sudden and quickly done.

Date: 2006-03-03 05:50 am (UTC)I think that the Wershbas were used as a microcosm to reflect this hostility and paranoia.

Date: 2006-03-03 06:43 am (UTC)At first, I thought the Wershbas were communists trying to keep a low profile, or something. Even if I didn't completely understand the arc, it certainly worked, as when they were going through the team to "clean" it, I was all "oh, he's gonna get caught", but really, it was nothing of the sort. They got me paranoid too, believing some utter crap.
Well done.
